Frequently asked questions

Below are the most common questions I receive from clients, however if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me on Sunflowerscounselling1@outlook.com

Is my counselling confidential?

Yes. Everything discussed in counselling is treated confidentially. However, confidentiality may need to be broken if there are serious concerns about safety, safeguarding, or where disclosure is required by law. This will be explained fully before therapy begins.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to begin getting to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. We may discuss your current difficulties, hopes for therapy, and any questions or concerns you may have. There is no pressure to share more than you feel comfortable with.

What is person-centred counselling?

Person-centred counselling is a compassionate and collaborative approach to therapy that focuses on providing a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. The therapeutic relationship is built on empathy, authenticity, and acceptance.

How do online counselling sessions work?

Sessions take place online via a secure video platform. You simply need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with audio and video access. Online therapy allows you to access support from the comfort of your own space.

Is online counselling effective?

Yes. Many people find online counselling just as beneficial as face-to-face therapy, while also appreciating the comfort and flexibility of attending sessions from home.

What am I trained to help with?

I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever may be feeling difficult or overwhelming.

I may be able to support with:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Low mood
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Emotional overwhelm
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Work or university stress
  • Boundaries and people-pleasing
  • Feeling stuck or lost
  • Eating disorders

You do not need to be in crisis to access counselling. I offer a free 30-minute introductory call if you would like to explore whether therapy feels right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number of sessions. Some clients prefer short-term support, while others choose longer-term therapy depending on their needs.

Do I need to know exactly what to talk about?

Not at all. Many people begin counselling unsure of where to start. Therapy is a space for exploration, and we can work at your pace.

Can I stop counselling at any time?

Yes. You are free to end counselling whenever you choose. Where possible, it can be helpful to have a final session to reflect on the work together.

Can I book sessions fortnightly instead of weekly?

Yes. Weekly sessions are usually recommended initially, but session frequency can be discussed depending on your needs and circumstances.
